Winding Streets breekt met het orthogonale grid van het na-oorlogse centrum van Rotterdam. Een fijnmazig stelsel van straten en stegen vormt een continue route, waaraan iedere woning zijn eigen tuin en voordeur heeft. Door de straat te verheffen van het maaiveld ontstaat een woongebouw met een hoge woningdichtheid. Iedere woning verschilt in plattegrond, uitzicht en ligging. Op een klein stukje Rotterdam verrijst een groene wijk, waarin levendigheid en sociale controle hand in hand gaan.
Winding Streets breaks with the orthogonal grid of post-war Rotterdam central discrict. A dense structure of streets and alleys composes a continuous route, while giving access to the individual dwellings and their gardens. Elevating this route makes it possible to create a dense configuration, and provides each residence its own unique situation, floorplan and view. On this small plot in Rotterdam arises a vivid green district where liveliness and a safe social structure go hand in hand.
Over FOAM
FOAM is een eigenzinnig Rotterdams architectenbureau met de ambitie om bewoners van de stad aan het denken te zetten. Werkend vanuit de Creative Factory zorgt FOAM met een transparante en no-nonsense aanpak voor een geheel eigen benadering van het architectenvak. FOAM ontwerpt en is sterk visueel ingesteld. Architectuur is de leidende, maar geenszins de beperkende factor binnen het bureau. Naast architectonische opgaven richt FOAM zich op interieur, onderzoek, grafische vormgeving en diverse vormen van (interactieve) media.
About FOAM
FOAM is an excentric, Rotterdam-based architectural office with the ambition to make the city’s inhabitants think about their city. Operating from the Creative Factory, FOAM works in a transparant and no-nonsense way on a new and unique approach of running an architectural firm. Within the company itself, architecture is the leading but by no means the limiting factor. Besides architectural cases, FOAM focusses on interior design, research, graphic design and different kinds of (interactive) media.
